Cube Run
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
Cube Run is a simple platformer with a focus on hard, yet enjoyable levels and satisfying mechanics and movement. It's my first game since getting into the game development scene, so any feedback would be appreciated! You can send me feedback via the comment section on this project page, the in-game feedback menu, or you can contact me on Twitter or Discord.
I also streamed the development process of the game on Twitch and created devlogs each week over on my YouTube channel, which was a big meme. So if you're interested, go check them out!
What do I do?
Well, that's pretty simple. You are a cube and your ultimate goal is to navigate your way to the yellow cube at the end of each level.
So, that's it?
Besides the levels getting harder and harder, you will gain access to a total of three powerups throughout the game. Which you will have to use in combination to complete the later levels.

Not only do you have to master each ability, but you'll have to master all the different types of platforms, mechanics and objects that Cube Run has to offer! Here are a few quick sneak peeks.

As much as it is a simple game, there is more to it than meets the eye. But you'll have to find out what those secrets are yourself.
Cool! How do I get started?
You'll want to create a new folder somewhere on your computer and extract the contents of the zip into it. Most operating systems have a way to deal with zips, but if not, just download a zip decompressor of some sort and extract the file with that. Once you've got the folder ready, open it up and click on the Cube Run executable file (application on Mac) and have some fun!
Note: If you're a Mac user, you may have to go into you security settings to allow the program through the MacOS security protocol. There should be a little question mark on the top right of the pop up that tells you how to do that. Once you've got the security settings open, make sure to click 'ok' on the pop-up so that the security settings will show the prompt to allow Cube Run to run. Alternatively, you can download the itch.io desktop app and then download the game.

Love the jump mechanics and difficulty of the game. Suggestion I would add a nice background instead of the simple black screen. It could be a cube like background

Nice small and fun game with a catchy music, Dash!
I have a few issues with controls / resolution on a Mac Book Pro 2018 (reported via game, so will not repeat myself here).
Give it a try people, you on Macs too, so it may be easier for Dash to diagnose repeating issues.
I am looking for a possible update and new games in future of course!

This is ggggrrrrreeeeeeaaaaaat! I rage quit when I couldnt get past lvl 4, coz I'm hungry haha but the mechanics and feel is awesome. I love the green speed blocks and the text as the tutorial as you go is a great idea too. Rotating blocks are fun also and most of all, the game remembers where you left off, so I can jump back into lvl 4 after lunch. And finally my xbox controller works perfectly in this too. Awesome game mate! Well done!

Great game! Loved the level design and the variety. The narration sassiness was a bonus hahah but the onboarding is great! Love the juiciness of the sounds and the polish of the game as well. I haven't finished all the way thru but I think I played about 5/6 levels :D Super addicting!
Some feedback I have is that the movement precision seems a bit off and can be a little frustrating sometimes. It might be the smoothing filter? Have you tried without it -not sure if it would help, just an idea! Space bar to jump is also sometimes unresponsive. Not sure if I was using the vertical goop platforms wrong but that's where I ended up getting stuck even though I passed the intro to it.

I will experiment with movement responsiveness in the the bug/feature patch and see what I can come up with. Either way, your feedback is invaluable to me and I greatly appreciate your time!
I just finished the game and I really liked it! The movement feels really good and the powerups are very fun to play with! The narrator dialogue was fun to read throughout the game and well presented. The visuals are minimalistic and clean. They communicate the mechanics well and look slick. Level design was good and everything felt challenging but not impossible. There was a major difficulty spike at the very end of the game during the boss fight but of course that's to be expected.
There are some improvements to the game I think you could make: Firstly, and most importantly I think a major positive addition you could easily make is to add a button to let you quickly restart from the last checkpoint. The lava looks cool but seeing the short animation of the player sort of sinking in over and over can really add up to a lot of time the player lost when they could be playing. This is further compounded when sometimes the platforms are way higher than the lava so you have to wait until you fall all the way down and then watch the death animation. Another improvement that could easily be made, in my opinion, is if you did not use a default Unity graphic for the boss health bar and the progress bar during the boss fight. To other developers that have used Unity it sticks out like a sore thumb and it also just doesn't match the polished look of the rest of the game at all. Some people might not notice it but just a simple long rectangle would look much better than one of the low-res Unity default graphics. Walljumping on the blue lined platforms is fun but hard to do a lot of the time. Its not finicky exactly, I think its consistent in how it works, but it just works in a way I wouldn't expect without thinking about how to do it. Maybe that one is just me though.
I also did encounter some small glitches while playing: The player can't stand on a lot of the vertical platforms without getting awkwardly slowed and then shoved off into the lava. It feels like gravity increases when the player does that. I assume this was intention as it only happens in places where it seems unintended for the player to stand on top of these platforms but the implementation is very awkward and it seems a little glitchy. When I finished the game the final level with the boss had no completion time so I clicked on it thinking maybe it was an extra secret level. It was just the normal final level but the darkness didn't appear and the boss appeared at the end of the progress bar at the bottom. When I clicked the button the lights suddenly went out and it progressed normally. I went back to the main menu and the ominous boss sounds continued to play along with the main menu music though.
I know I probably wrote more constructive criticism than positive feedback in this comment but I genuinely like the game a lot! Its very fun and it looks really polished, especially for a beginner!
